The small things in life are not so small
It is often said that life is about appreciating the little things.
But what we perceive as little is often a lot bigger.
A few years ago I got hospitalized due to a snakebite. I could not move my feet for almost a week. The ICU, where I was admitted, called an expert to check them out. They suspected I might have something called Compartment Syndrome and that I may need an operation.
The medical expert examined my feet closely, looked me in the eye, and told me he would come again in a few days. He did not give a final prognosis.
I was worried. What if I couldn’t walk?
As much as I tried to be positive, there was fear inside my heart.
Later that same night, I woke up at 3:00 in the morning. I decided to try to move my feet one more time, and this time, I noticed a tiny movement.
I never thought I'd be so happy to see my toes moving.
My medical issue provided me with a new perspective and a deeper appreciation for the little things. Without my feet, for example, I would not be able to perform most tasks, let alone move.
When was the last time you looked at your feet, your legs, anything in your body really, and marveled that it worked the way it did?
How about right now?
Let's marvel at this masterful piece of art—our body—while we can.
The small things in life are often quite big.
